MASS RABBINIC CLOSURE
mass rabbinic arrest
mass rabbinic a.c.d.
mass rabbinic impact
mass rabbinic closure
Well, it's over.
Seven months ago, 22 people — mostly rabbis, with a few rabbinical students and a non-rabbinic community leader or two — were arrested in an act of civil disobedience obstructing pedestrian traffic outside the UN in order to protest the government of Iran.
Six months ago, those same protesters appeared in court and were granted Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal — an automatic retroactive dismissal of charges contingent on staying out of trouble for six months.
However, I think it's safe to assume that the story doesn't quite end here. The government of Iran's terrorist proxy machinations and nuclear aspirations continue. How will Jewish leaders take a stand next time? Stay tuned...

Good to hear that the charge(s) were dismissed.
you're lucky. my dad was arrested once with some beitar buddies in the mid 60s for having a party (as he called the sit-in) in the syrian mission to the UN. they were arrested, but the (jewish) judge wanted to prove something so he refused to let them off. his record came back to haunt him a couple of times

Well, I'm not personally lucky because i wasn't a participant in the protest, i was just a journalist covering the story.
And this is why you need to coordinate civil disobedience protests with the police beforehand :-P
Ideally they'd wait one day and then start over. What think?
Hatam Soferet:
i half expected them to pull something like that, but they didn't.
I still like how Ben looks there... really classy, ya know?
Ezzie:
yeah.
i feel like if i tried something like this, i would be tugging at my tallis the whole time trying to make sure it doesn't look stupid. some people just get it naturally :-P
