בְּעִתָּהּ אֲחִישֶׁנָּה

Appropriately enough for the Seven Weeks of Consolation, feel free to be inspired by reading one of the later Haftarot of Nehhama that we'll get to in a few weeks, Yesha‘yahu 60.

קומי אורי, כי בא אורך ... אני ה', בעתה אחישנה

Arise, shine, for your light has come ...
... I am God — when the time comes, I will rush it.

Remember what I was saying about having a few more months to work through my ambivalent feelings towards semikha, figure out if I really want to go for it, and if yes, where I would go?

Uhm, well, uh... yeah.

class of 5770

:-)

Now I guess the question is, should I change the name of this blog to The Study Hall of the Goblin King?

Mazal tov and hatslacha!

btw I would have translated "kumi ori ki ba orech" as "Get up, my light, you've started glowing!"

thanks!

and thanks for the alternate translation; although, for אורי to mean "my light", the accent would have to be on the רי not the או, where it actually is here, if you check the trop.

What does class of 5771 (or maybe '70, still to be determined) mean? It's a three-year course and you don't know if you're starting this year or next? Or it's a four-year course but you might get exemptions and do it in three?

thanks!

the latter; four year program, but might have to do it in three if outside factors come into play

I noticed you at Ramath Orah this Fri night, but you disappeared when I went over to introduce myself. I guess you'll be in the neighborhood quite a bit now.

Well, I don't know. Avot chapter 1 quotes Shmayah as recommending that one maintain an unfriendly posture towards the rabbinate. Nevertheless, I still like you and (seriously now) wish you much hatzlahhah.
