I had never heard of that town. But yes, the Dutch are meshugge for mussels.
The scene: A charming restaurant on the Tweede Helmers Straat (second Helmet-makers street - there are three Helmet-makers streets), serving "Dutch" food. And mussels.
Two servings were ordered.
Turns out each serving is as big as a bucket.
Eating mussels is serious business.
Not that wussy little serving common in American restaurants.
Emptying the ocean of everything edible is a past-time and passion that the Dutch, Flemish, Icelanders, Japanese, and Cantonese share.
